A word about Search Engines: .. We all want the world to be able to easily find your website and therefore search engines were born. Some of the more popular search engines are YAHOO, INFOSEEK, EXCITE. In order for your website to show up in their and other search engines you need to know a little about how they work.
It can take months, even if you do everything correctly! Due to the tremendous number of new webpages and websites added every day, even the most efficient search engines are taking several months and longer to get around to cataloguing and indexing your site. Some search engines use computers to read your webpages, others such as Yahoo use actual humans to explore, approve, and catalog your website. Most search engines therefore are 6 months to 1 1/2 years behind. Fortunatly there are things you can do to keep it from taking even longer longer
Each Search Engine is unique and secretive on how they catalog websites however most work something like this; They have a computer (spider) that visits your Home Page and reads the words it finds there. Then it tries to INDEX or Catalog what it thinks your website is about. Later when someone tries to find your site using that search engine their catalog is compared to what the person has requested and if your site looks like a match your website will show up on the list. If there are lots of matches then yours may be one of thousands.
Keywords & Site Descriptions: In order to help the Search Engines properly catalog your website, your Remote Control Website uses a special tool called META TAGS. This tool allows you to select your own Keywords and Site Description to emphasize how you want your site to be cataloged.
Description Guidelines: This should be a brief description. e.g. WonderWebUSA specializes in Remote Control Website Design. Many search engines catalog heavily on the Description.
Keywords: These are single words or phrases that will match what the public might type into a search engine. e.g. website design, website, web, Santa Clarita, Remote Control, hosting, world wide web, WWW, Internet, etc. You should take some time to think of words someone may type in to find a business like yours. There is not really a limit to how many you can use however some search engines limit the number so put the most important keywords at the beginning.
Don't Use the same words over and over. Most search engines will reject websites that use the same word more than a few times. If you try to trick them, they may reject your site.
It is a good idea ... Although the search engines theoretically will find your website on their own its a good idea to submit your website directly to each of the major search engines when your site is first created and then to re-submit or update your website with those search engines on a regular basis. This will help increase the chances of your site showing up nearer the top of the search results. You can do this yourself as often as you wish click here. or you can also go directly to WonderWebUSA.com and select the search engine button.
As each search engine varies on its Submission guidelines, (some easy like EXCITE, some hard like YAHOO) you may not wish to take the time to learn how each works, therefore... WonderWebUSA offers a quarterly search engine registration and update plan. We will register and then re-register your site for you every three months for $19.95/quarter. Click Here to sign up.
There are also other services that offer to get you placed higher in search engines and a few software products that make this claim as well. A word of caution, many are scams as the rules for search engines are the same for all and as soon as someone figures a way to manipulate one, the search engine comes up with a way to defeat it.
Pay for placement. Most search engines will sell you priority placement. You need to read their websites to find out how their advertising policies and what it costs.
